Giddy-up!

As Soapfi continues to grow, she inches up on those minimum height requirement charts and more fun activities are open to her when we go places. We were delighted to find out she was big enough to go on her very first pony ride while we were at the Skagit Valley Highland Games. It was the best $4 we had spent all day – she was ecstatic.

We had been concerned it would turn into one of those things that sounded better in concept than in execution. That she would be excited right up until she actually got on the pony, and then it would morph into one of her “it’s scary” episodes. But she remained enthusiastic the entire time, from waiting in line for her turn, clear up until it was time to wave goodbye to the pony.

Early on she was concentrating fiercely on keeping her grip on the saddle horn, but by the fourth or fifth time around she was feeling brave enough to practice her parade wave!

The only downside to the experience has been for Mommy, as I am now the de facto pony around the house, and she likes to go for rides… a lot!

Mmmm Timbits!

Catching up on some blog reading and came across a mention of Timbits by one of my favorite bloggers, stayathometatte. Which reminded me – I never got around to posting this picture from vacation of Soapfi having her very first Timbit! (Which she declared as yummy of course – the expression on her face has more to do with the confusion of why mommy is making such a big deal out of the donut hole, than with the donut hole itself!) When I imagine the future, I imagine a future where there are Tim Horton’s in Washington State (if Buffalo NY can have them, why can’t we?????), because I want my Sunday morning 40 pack please!

Sittin’ On A Rock In The Bay

The resort was on a nice inlet off the Straight of Georgia with a decent shoreline that had plenty of stomping ground even during high tide.

Soapfi was having a blast because her lovely rain boots were among the stuff we crammed into the car.

She found her first sand dollar, turned over rocks to find crabs, enjoyed throwing the turned over rocks into the bay, poked at some seaweed (the verdict: eeewwwwwww) and generally just enjoyed stomping around.

Soapfi had so many new things to explore she couldn’t make up her mind what to do next or which way to walk, which means I *finally* captured her “I don’t know” shrug on film!

First Steps

Soapfi’s second birthday is just around the corner and I’ve already managed to forget the time and date of over 95% of her “firsts”. I remember that they happened…. first tooth “Mr Bitey”,  first word “Dada”, first obsession “Caillou”, but I don’t remember when.

They make baby books specifically to record these things, it is tucked away on a shelf in the Sarlacc Pit (aka the den/computer room) – it does have one entry – from when she bunched up her legs and flung herself out of my lap at 5 weeks old, because nothing gets you motivated to preserve something for posterity quite like guilt.

So I’ve decided my universe needs a better timeline than the one given to me by Facebook. So now all my random crap about whatever will have a time stamp. I guess I will have to change my G+ tag line, I’m officially no longer too lazy to have a blog…. of course having a blog and maintaining it are two completely different issues.

Welcome to my universe, let the proper documentation begin!
