Funny Faces

I had so much fun on my trip, I nerded out, caught up in person with peeps I had only known online, and met a ton of new friends. But even though it was a blast, I am so glad to be home, because I sorely missed Soapfi and all the fun we have when we are together.

I think the thing I missed the most was being silly at dinner. Soapfi loves to bop around and dance in her chair, and make faces – oh how I missed that face! I have to get my fill as fast as possible, because tomorrow night she leaves with Daddy for a week back east to hang out with her Papa & Babchi.

I’m torn between being delighted that I’ll be able to do all the things I want (like get yard work done uninterrupted, craft without having to worry about stitch markers getting eaten, and play Diablo 3 without worrying Soapfi might decide that punching and helicopter kicking things is a great way to solve all your problems (yep I’m playing a Monk)), and having to go another week without participating in all the fun things she is learning and doing (although I must say the absence of diaper changes has been rather nice!).

I’m sure the week will fly by, and if I get too nostalgic, I’ve got a crap-ton of pictures that need to go into photo albums!

Magic Wand!

Look at me, doing the whole fancy scheduled post thing!  I’m hopefully all nerd-ed out, most likely safely on my way back home, and definitely missing Soapfi. Hopefully she’s been having fun with Daddy and playing magician:

Because magic wands (otherwise known as size Q crochet hooks!), capes (yep we’re the people that buy those NFL themed Snuggies knockoffs!), and top hats (okay we were fresh out of top hats, but a mommy made Jayne Cobb cunning hat is even better for the crafty sci-fi nerd in me!) are awesome!

Aw Shucks

So I’m heading out to Utah for my super squee nerd event – Nerdtacular 2012. Between work and getting ready I was once again bad about blogging earlier this week – hopefully the new Art of Subtlety pictures from yesterday (and a few more upcoming Wordless Wednesdays) will make up for it.

But before I left I wanted to share the latest chuckle brought to us by Soapfi!

As mentioned and pictured before, Soapfi loves her vegetables. Especially corn, with corn on the cob making her head almost OMG explode even more than SWINGS!

She loves it so much that she actually chose a side of corn over french fries when we were at Denny’s the other day. It was Tuesday so kids eat free, Daddy was playing hockey, Mommy is a crap-tastic cook at the best of times, and Original Grand Slams are on sale for $2.99! I quickly decided – let the world judge, we’re eating dinner for about $12 (half of which was the tip because the dude worked hard and it’s not his fault we ordered cheap food!), and she gets crayons too! She ate the entire side of corn with unbridled enthusiasm and delight to while singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” between spoonfuls. Which means Mommy actually got dinner AND a show for $12!

Last night Soapfi and Daddy were shucking corn for dinner, Soapfi was *SO* excited about the prospect that when Daddy turned his back, for what he estimated was three minutes, to get more things out of the fridge and put the meatloaf in the oven he came back to the table to find this:

Yep – she had taken a whole bunch of nibbles out of the raw corn, of course she had to sample all three just to make sure they were equally delicious!

How Versatile

During my brief hiatus while I was busy doing things that I could hopefully blog about later, CoffeePowerdMom was kind enough to nominate me for the Versatile Blogger Award – because she is awesome-sauce!

Which immediately made me run through a whole gamut of emotions, from “Woo-hoo, someone other that me is reading these things!!”, to “Oh Crap, do I even read enough other blogs to nominate 15 other people? Yep, but all the ones I do read have already been nominated numerous times”, to “At least I’ll have one thing to write about this week”.

If you ever want to kill a chain letter, or pyramid recipe scheme, or email joke thread, send it to me – I never ever follow through on that shit. But this is different, this is a big sparkly *AWARD*. So like any good major award, I’m going to prop it up in my figurative front window for all to see, and even more remarkably, actually make an effort to pass it along and mostly follow the rules!

So here it goes:

♦  Thank and link to the nominator (see first paragraph)
♦  Tell seven things about you (see below)
♦  Nominate 15 blogs that are awesome-sauce (see below that)

Seven things about me, in no particular order, with no particular theme, that hopefully include at least one or two things that you didn’t already know, or maybe even a stunning revelation (doubtful!)

1.  I’m not a very good gardener, but when I do manage to get to the weeding, I weed just like my Grandma Mary did – standing on my feet, bent over at the waist, with my ass hanging out for all the world to see – because it really is faster than shuffling around on my knees.

2. I have been to the top of the Eiffel Tower even though I’m scared of heights, I have climbed the Great Wall of China even though I’m out out of shape, and I have golfed in Scotland even though I don’t have an official handicap, but I will *NEVER* be convinced to get over my fear of raw fish and try sashimi!!!

3.  My idea of “cooking” is pre-heating the oven and throwing in a Stouffer’s Family Size Lasagna.

4.  I firmly believe that Joss Whedon is brilliant – I would watch his film adaptation of paint drying on a wall.

5.  I love my job, but that doesn’t mean I don’t day dream about making a living crocheting and knitting… or owning my own hockey rink.

6.  I almost ran over Martin Mull with my bicycle while I was visiting my uncle. (He lived in Brentwood in the 1990’s so I had a few run-in’s with famous people – but usually I wasn’t accidentally trying to injure them.)

7.  I think everybody should get their butt checked, because colon cancer sucks (Miss you every day Daddy).

And now for the harder part… coming up with 15 other blogs to nominate. I have a few core blogs that I love (of which I was surprised to find there were actually more than 15!), but I love them for the same reason so many other people love them, which means most of them have been nominated numerous times before. So I will at least list them here (again in no particular order) so others can go check them out, and then I’ll work on letting them know once I figure out if it’s a “new to them” award or not! (Like I mentioned before, not always so good with following the rules, so if you see yourself here before I tag you on your blog…. that’s sooooo freaking cool that you follow me!)

Mostly Wordless Wednesday by Art of Subtlety – Hi Daddy!

So here is a sneak peak of some of the fun stuff from Soapfi’s last photo session – so glad to have some more Art of Subtlety stuff to share.  If you haven’t checked out her work – run, don’t walk, right over to her website! And if you’re in the greater Seattle area and need family photos she is worth every penny! Just tell her Soapfi sent you!

Mini Me

In an effort to work through my “school is out for summer” attitude, I am attempting to at least put up a picture with a short story or quip so that the blog doesn’t end up in my unfinished craft pile. (I so relate to the unfinished projects part of this recent post by The Diary of a Reluctant Mother (another of my favorite blogs) it is scary –  and I think my pile of craft is way bigger than hers!)

Soapfi is starting the phase of wanting to imitate and be like the adults. She will plop down next to one of us and sit in the exact same way, if our legs are crossed, she’ll cross hers, if we have our hands clasped, she will too. It’s the cutest thing ever (and being the kind of parents we are, we kind of giggle during the swearing episodes – I know, I know we really have to watch our own potty mouths!)

In her effort to imitate Mommy she has started stealing my glasses and wearing them herself. She has most excellent eyesight (one of my first blog posts was all about it) so I don’t really think glasses are in her near future, but if her eyesight suddenly takes a dive, at least she’ll look frakkin’ cute!!!

What Soapfi Loves

What she loves right now is vegetables. So much so that she can’t even wait until dinner is on the table to get to her peas & carrots. She ate half the bowl before we finally took it away (under much protest by Soapfi) so that there would be some left for Mommy & Daddy!

Oh, and she’s wicked good with devouring an entire cob of corn all on her own too!

I don’t know how long this whole veggie loving phase will last, but I plan to stuff her full of them while I can.

Things are kind of crazy around the house right now, and I’m getting ready for a road trip to nerd out with my friends at Nerdtacular 2012 in Salt Lake City.

Despite personally being out of school for quite awhile, I’m falling into the “school is out for summer” mindset when it comes to blogging, so apologies in advance for the lack of regularity in posting, and slow responses to comments. I’ll get my azz back on track one of these weeks!
